Reader sunglasses are sunglasses that include a reading magnification area in the lower part of the lens. This way you can see the distance and still be able to score your golf card, see your Fishfinder or just see your watch.
This is most pertinent to presbyopes, who have difficulty focussing on near objects after the age of 40.
Of course, you can get bifocal sunglasses made to your prescription at any time. So if you are a myope or hyperope or have astigmatism , you can get sunglasses that fulfil all of these needs. Discuss this with your Optometrist to see all the options, or make an appointment with High Sight Optometry. A few companies now provide models that are for people with no prescription to see the distance.
Maui Jim Sunglasses have new models where the reading segment is not even visible from the outside. They look like normal off-the-rack sunglasses, but are in fact polarized bifocal sunglasses.
I stock these in my Carlingford store. So if you live or are passing through North-Western Sydney, feel free to drop in and try them!
In future we should have more options in sunglass reading glasses. The population is aging and more and more people need polarized bifocal sunglasses to read a map, see their speed or even just the dashboard when driving.
